In a single sentence, The Sadistic Scribbler is an established artist and photographer who made ends meet as a web designer and IT consultant between jobs as a teacher. As well as having a "brain the size of a planet" and being Time magazine's 2006 Person of the Year, he is a baritone, but often sings tenor, and goes by the name of Jan Szafranski.

Starting out as a comic book artist, first underground in the '70s to mainstream in the late '80s, and then commercial 'alternative' artist, illustrator and animator before teaching art & photography to teens, he moved into computers, web-design, photo-manips, etc. before returning to teaching in 2002.

In 2006 he briefly lost his sight but regained it, only to start on a slow physical decline… with pain, fatigue, vision & cognitive problems, and tremors & spasms associated with MS. Now sorta-retired because of the symptoms, he only manages the odd work when in remission.

Mainly Stuckist in practice, he works in paint, pencil, ink and digi-paint and has exhibited and been published. This website is a portal to pages and sites that feature his work, and also includes links to his portfolios, blogs, and business.
